Robin Study

Anyway, yeah, it's sad to find robins who get hit by cars. But the artist in me also can't resist. Animal rights people: it was already dead. And burying things in dirt actually isn't that flattering once you get past the cultural expectancy of it.

Micron and limited pallette watercolor, with some white gouache (cue purist flaming). About two hours, overall. 8.5 x 11And, as gross as it is, I'm trying to dry it so I can do more wing studies. My sisters think I'm gross. You probably do too.

Good on you Erika!

Years ago, I found a cat's head when I was out doing a ten mile jog. I thought to myself, if it's there tomorrow, I'm gonna get it.

The next day, I ran out there with a plastic bag -- and sure enough it was still there. It was all dried and mummified, like it had been out there for months. I assumed a car must have hit it, and the head popped off.

I took it home and soaked it in Purex Bleach, because Purex will eat the flesh like acid, and with a toothbrush and some dishwashing gloves, cleaned up the cat's skull. To my surprise, I discovered teeth marks on the base of the skull, I realized then this cat had met his fate in the jaws of a coyote.

I still have the cat's skull, and it is in immaculate condition. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I"ve drawn it.

I didn't know purex bleach could do that...that's definitely good to know though.

Even cooler that it had coyote tooth marks in it.
